In commemoration of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, FYCI is instituting an annual award for young people, tagged the Young Voices Against SGBV Award. The award will be given to winners of the Young Voices Against SGBV Competition.
About the Competition
The competition is aimed at:
- stimulating youth interest in SGBV issues;
- harnessing youth creativity into anti-SGBV messaging;
- stimulating anti-SGBV discourse among youth; and
- encouraging young people to join the fight against SGBV.
The competition will run on social media for the entire sixteen days of activism against GBV, that is, from Thursday, 25 November to Friday, 10 December 2021. Winners will receive the Young Voices Against SGBV Award, which consists of the following:
- 1. First place 50,000 Naira
- 2. Second Place 30,000 Naira
- 3. Third place 20,000 Naira
In addition to cash gifts, winners will also receive the following benefits:
- They will be presented the Young Voices Against SGBV plaque
- They will be inaugurated as Anti-SGBV Ambassadors, who will continue to work with FYCI after the competition to champion anti-SGBV messaging
- Their video entries will be publised widely
- They will be profiled on our website
How to Enter
Young girls and boys aged 18 to 35 are eligible to participate in this competition. Participants can enter the competition by following the steps below:
Study
Read our blog post on SGBV and the VAPP Act here.
Create
Create a video (max. 2 minutes) using a creative art form (music, spoken word, drama, etc.) to express lessons on SGBV and/or the VAPP Act. Ensure that the video promotes anti-SGBV messaging.
Upload
Upload the video on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Ensure that you tag @fycinitiative and use the hashtag #YoungVoicesAgainstSGBV.

Assessment Criteria
Entries will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- Powerful anti-SGBV messaging.
- Strong commitment to join the fight against SGBV after the competition.
- High level of creativity and innovation
