Corruption is a persistent problem in Nigeria. The country has consistently performed poorly on Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index, having ranked as low as 150 out of 180 countries in the 2022 index. The corruption problem has permeated all sections of our society, from individuals who request bribes to do basic tasks, to leaders who embezzle and mismanage public funds.
At Priests Peace and Justice Initiative (PPJ) and Frontline Youth Creativity Initiative (FYCI), we believe in the power of youth agency to drive behaviour change and promote anti-corruption norms among the populace. Against this context, in commemoration of International Youth Day 2023, PPJ and FYCI are launching the #ShunCorruption Challenge.
The challenge is aimed at:
- Elevating youth voices in the anti-corruption agenda.
- Increasing youth awareness of anti-corruption issues.
- Empowering young people to join the fight against corruption.
The challenge will run on Instagram for one week: from Monday, 14 August 2023 to Monday, 21 August 2023.

Five winners will be chosen. Winners will receive a token prize of N30,000 each. They will also be inaugurated as Shun Corruption Ambassadors, who will continue to work with PPJ and FYCI after the challenge to champion anti-corruption messaging within their various spheres of influence.
